Staff Accessibility and Meetings

Sarah Slack April 27, 2020. Slack will be joining Beachnut Animal Hospital, a small animal practice in Houston, Texas. Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube. TAMU Google Apps for file sharing and collaboration activities in research, academic and health domains in which regulated datasets are not required. TAMU Microsoft OneDrive for cloud storage uploading and sharing of files and leveraging features across the Office 365 suite of applications. In your web browser, go to tamu.slack.com. Click 'Create an Account'. Enter your @tamu.edu email address to register. Only an @tamu.edu address will allow you to register for the tamu.slack team. All communications staff are working remotely during this time. Please use email or the TAMU Slack application to connect with individual staff members. Fill out the communications request form for specific project requests. Meetings with our staff will be conducted via Zoom or phone.

Events

The college is directing all units, departments and programs to not hold in-person events this fall in following the guidelines from the CDC and Texas A&M University.

Please contact the communications office if you are planning to hold a virtual event that you would like to promote.

All college and department faculty, staff and students should hold all official events and celebrations virtually until further notice from the university.

  • Virtual events should be organized through the TAMU Zoom system.
  • Individuals wishing to host an event or celebrations should designate an employee to serve as the host of the event. The
    host will be responsible for (either directly or through a team of individuals):
    • Allowing participants to join the session.
    • Managing who is allowed to speak and when.
    • Working with selected individuals who will present information (i.e., monitoring questions from the chat and enabling screen sharing).
    • Recording the session.
  • Copies of presentation materials, programs, etc. should be shared via email to participants before the event, if possible.
  • If the event host(s) wishes to share a gift or giveaway item for participants, it should be individually wrapped and distributed via mail to eliminate face-to-face interactions.
  • If an event MUST be held in person, attendees should follow CDC guidelines for health and safety as well as protocols set by the university regarding masks and social distancing.
  • Individuals who exhibit any known symptoms or feel sick should be directed to not attend.
  • No food or drink should be provided to eliminate opportunities for exposure to infected or asymptomatic persons.

To maintain the health and safety of our staff and stakeholders, previously-scheduled directory photo shoots have been canceled for the fall. If you need a headshot for the faculty and staff directory, please contact Heather Moses to schedule a socially-distanced, one-on-one photo shoot.

What We Do

The Communications Office in the College of Education and Human Development is responsible for strategic communications, media relations, creative services and branding and identity. Here’s how we can help you:

Marketing

The marketing team’s objective is to help achieve the college’s overall goal in recruiting and enrolling a high-quality, diverse and successful student body, in addition to generating a greater awareness of the quality, scholarship and innovation within the college.

To accomplish this, the marketing team employs a plan involving news and media promotions, publications, video, web and other electronic communications and targeted social media marketing.

Graphic Design & Branding

The graphic design & branding team works to represent a cohesive visual identity for the College of Education & Human Development while abiding by Texas A&M brand guidelines.

Our office can accommodate requests, creation and approval for logos, flyers, brochures and other visual elements. We are responsible for directory photoshoots, maintaining the college’s photo repository and can provide event photography as well.

Web

The web team for the Communications Office maintains the websites of the College of Education and Human Development and its departments. Our aim is to create a hub for content, information and resources that is accessible and aesthetically-pleasing.

We handle requests for site updates, edits and improvements. We also offer consultations to create new pages or sites.

WordPress Resources

Video

The video team creates engaging content that supports the visual identity of the college while promoting awareness among prospectives, peers and the public.

We offer consultation for video projects and audio/video services for events. Wineskin for mac os mojave.

News & Social Media

Our news and social media team work to promote college initiatives and accomplishments as well as grow our brand reach and engagement.

We cover events, write features and press releases, and promote those stories through our social media channels. Our team also coordinates media interviews and offers media training for faculty. We can assist in the creation of social-media channels — including branded profile or cover images — and provide support once those channels are created.

Our events team coordinates college events and also offers event-planning consultation, as well as equipment usage at events and conferences, and promotional items and giveaways. We also maintain the College of Education & Human Development calendar.

Our team is also responsible for the college’s relationship with donors.

The CESG has several computing resources available for students, faculty, and authorized users to use for research, projects, and coursework. The primary workhorse is the CESG cluster.

Support

For any and all support issues with the CESG cluster (including adding new packages needed for research), please send an email explaining the problem to linux-engr-helpdesk@tamu.edu. This will be converted into a trackable ticket for resolution.

Access to the cluster

The CESG cluster’s logins use netid and password (_not_ the user/pass used on the old dropzone cluster). If you need a login on the CESG cluster, please emaillinux-engr-helpdesk@tamu.edu, be sure to include the name of the professor in the CESG group you are working with. You should also cc your professor on the email to the helpdesk to streamline the process. Be sure to let the professor know that he/she is expected to send a confirmation email.

Scheduled Maintenance

The cluster will be shut down completely three times a year for scheduled maintenance. Note that all running jobs will be killed during this shutdown so please plan your long running jobs around this. The shutdowns will occur on the following dates over the next 12 months:

May 25th, 2018
Aug 24th, 2018
Jan 11th, 2019

(and repeating yearly on approximately those dates)

(Be sure to check Ganglia before starting new jobs, to pick the node with the least load)

Interacting with the cluster

Tamu Sso

These machines are “headless”, ie the are not meant for interactive or GUI use, but rather for batch jobs that are started remotely. To this end it is recommended that you use “ssh”, potentially in combination with “screen”, or similar tools to batch off your jobs. Note that long running full desktop environment GUIs will be killed automatically, likely losing your work, since they are resource hogs. You can however use ssh to port an X window or two, to display output data for instance, as needed.
