The automatic gearbox Powershift 6dct450 mps6 had six stages, the last is the down and it is used for fuel economy. Gearbox has high demands on service work. It is necessary to carry out the replacement of the transmission oil and filter elements every 30,000 kilometers.

6dct450 Problems

When I try to execute the shift forks system learn and clutch system learn process with both Forscan IDS and UCDS I get an error, just like in the post viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9479&hilit=6DCT450.
Already changed the TCM module and valve body, including the original TCM with the second valve body and the original valve body with the second TCM, always results in 'process interruption' in Forscan, error 0X01 in UCDS and a huge number in IDS. The gearbox works normally but it bothers me so much that I don't do the process because I suppose something will be wrong and it could be a little problem now and become a big one over time.
In one dealer I was told that the processes were performed normally and another that did not work, as with me.
Could anyone have any ideas?
In advance thank you.
Sorry for my English.6dct450

About The 6DCT450 MPS6 Gearbox

The 6DCT450 MPS6 gearbox is a dual clutch semi automatic design, meaning that it features 2 different clutch packs that are controlled by the TCM 'transmission computer module' in order to achieve a smooth functional drive at all times regardless of road conditions.
However these gearboxes are prone to problems that normally start occurring at around 100K onwards, below is an outline of some common faults and problems these gearboxes encounter.

Clutch Issues

Typical worn clutch symptoms include juddering & possibly slipping on pull away from a standstill. The causes of this is normally down to the clutch plastics & springs breaking into small pieces within the clutch housing. These plastic clutch guides & springs will need to be replaced normally along with the steel spacer rings and clutch friction rings.

Clutch Plastic Breakage

As a result of the clutch guide plastics breaking up into small pieces, these can also make their way into the main gearbox. As this is a very precise gearbox and features many hydraulic channels you can experience problems relating to any part or component of the gearbox (not only a clutch fault) resulting from the build up of tiny parts of broken plastic clutch guides inhibiting key functions of the gearbox.

Blocked Filters

The 6DCT450 MPS6 feature 2 filters in their design. The first filter is situated on the outside of the gearbox near the valve body. The 2nd filter is located inside the main gearbox. Both filters can become blocked and cause issues with this gearbox, both these filters will need to be replaced for an effective rebuild of these transmissions.

Fork Piston Wear

The 6DCT450 MPS6 uses a number of small black pistons made from a tough plastic material, however being that these pistons are in use 100's of times during every drive cycle, these can start to wear resulting in faults occurring that can include shift problems that will inevitably throw the gearbox into fault mode or limited transmission function.

Solenoid Faults

(Be careful with these faults otherwise you will disappear down a rabbit hole and won't re-emerge very quickly) Solenoids on these gearboxes can fail from the magnetic core wearing out or contamination from miles upon miles of use, HOWEVER you can also get solenoid faults showing when all solenoids are absolutely fine and in working order, the faults are showing due to other component wear within the gearbox.

Summary

6dct450 Parts

I really should emphasize that there is unfortunately no short cut when fixing these gearboxes and faults read with an OBD scanner may not show you the cause of the problem, only the result if that makes sense etc. For instance I have personally seen these gearboxes with only solenoid fault codes however the solenoids have all been working correctly, the actual cause of the fault was worn components elsewhere within the gearbox. If faults have started to occur then it is to late just to change the external filter and replace the hydraulic gear oil, the gearbox will need completely stripping down.
From all our experience with this gearbox and it's faults we decided to create an OEM quality repair kit for these gearboxes that contains most if not all of the components you will need when rebuilding the main powershift gearbox unit. This rebuild kit can be found HERE
TCU's can also fail on these gearboxes however 90% of the time they tend to be in good working order with faults being caused from worn components etc.
We hope this information helps you in your quest of fixing your 6DCT450 MPS6 gearbox. This information is based upon our experience of repairing these gearboxes.
